Voter turnout expected to be lower than 2008, US President's mandate ranges between 25-35%.
Here is some math the establishment hopes you never do. Take the popular vote the newly elected president received, and see what percent of voter turnout it actually makes up. You will find that out of all eligible voters, the president is put into power with only between 25-35%. This isn't just with President Obama in 2012, but is a common feature of most US elections, and many elections around the world.
The next question becomes, what do we do about it?

Preliminary figures suggest fewer people voted this year than four years ago, when voters shattered turnout records as they elected Obama to his first term.
In most states, the numbers were even lower than in 2004, said Curtis Gans, director of American University’s Center for the Study of the American Electorate. Every state but Iowa is showing a smaller turnout than in 2008, Gans said. Still, the full picture may not be known for weeks because much of the counting takes place after Election Day.
“This was a major plunge in turnout nationally,” said Gans, who estimated about 126 million Americans voted, for an overall turnout rate of about 57.5 percent.
“Beyond the people with passion, we have a disengaged electorate,” Gans said.

As Obama continues to execute, for another four years, the very same policies implemented by Bush (and by Romney had he been elected), individuals who call themselves “liberals” or “progressives” will be faced with the challenge of defending what they perceive to be “their candidate” irrespective of reality, facts, and common sense.
Like the first four years, self-proclaimed progressives will continue to support the wholesale slaughter of innocent people in foreign countries, indefinite detention, banker bailouts, free trade, and a gross violation of civil liberties and Constitutional rights. While these very acts were once what liberals claimed was fueling their hatred of George W. Bush, it turns out that what passes for a progressive in 2012 is a rejection of war and totalitarianism directed by Republicans – not war and totalitarianism itself.
Indeed, when asking your average Obama fan their reason for such irrational support, one can scarcely receive an answer that does not have its root in false and divisive social paradigms such as his party, his race, or his age. Simply put, Obama supporters main reason for their allegiance to Barack Obama can be boiled down to two words – “He’s Obama!”

One Area Obama Has Helped Economy: Firearms Stocks & Sales Well if there is one area of the economy in which Barack Obama has improved, it is the firearms and ammunition industry. Immediately following the re-election of Obama the Dow was sent spiraling down 300 points, but it was the gun manufacturing stocks that saw an immediate surge.
For instance Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. jumped 10.8% to $10.48 a share. That’s more than double its price at the beginning of 2012.
In addition Sturm, Ruger & Co. Inc. saw a surge in their stocks as well gaining 6.4% to $47.48 a share, an increase of 39% from the first of the year.

In a recent op-ed published in Jurist, St. John’s University School of Law student Christopher Elsee described a scenario he believes threatens the civil rights of his fellow citizens.
Writes Elsee:
Imagine you have just written a check to an organization that sends mechanical engineering textbooks to students in Afghanistan or Iraq. Now further imagine that you have been engaged in this practice for well over a decade because you are interested in helping individuals in developing countries to improve their technical knowledge, with the hopes of enabling them to better themselves. Are you supporting terrorists? According to a proposed piece of legislation, you may very well be.
The latest iteration of the bill, known as the Enemy Expatriation Act, similarly augments the power of the federal government, allowing it to strip a suspect of his American citizenship based on nothing more than a suspicion of “engaging in, or purposefully or materially supporting, hostilities.” The text of the 2011 bill reads in relevant part:
A person who is a national of the United States whether by birth or naturalization, shall lose his nationality by voluntarily performing any of the following acts with the intention of relinquishing United States nationality … committing any act of treason against, or attempting by force to overthrow, or bearing arms against, the United States, violating or conspiring to violate any of the provisions of section 2383 of title 18, or willfully performing any act in violation of section 2385 of title 18, or violating section 2384 of title 18 by engaging in a conspiracy to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, if and when he is convicted thereof by a court martial or by a court of competent jurisdiction.

As of Saturday November 10, 2012, 15 States have petitioned the Obama Administration for withdrawal from the United States of America in order to create its own government.
States following this action include: Louisiana, Texas, Montana, North Dakota, Indiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Colorado, Oregon and New York. These States have requested that the Obama Administration grant a peaceful withdrawal from the United States.
These petitions were filed just days after the 2012 Presidential election.
Louisiana was the first State to file a petition a day after the election by a Michael E. from Slidell, Louisiana. Texas was the next State to follow by a Micah H. from Arlington, Texas.
The government allows one month from the day the petition is submitted to obtain 25,000 signatures in order for the Obama administration to consider the request.
The Texas petition reads as follows:
The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government’s neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.
As of 12:46 am, Sunday, signatures obtained by Louisiana, 7,358; Texas, 3,771; Florida, 636; Georgia, 475; Alabama, 834; North Carolina, 792; Kentucky, 467; Mississippi, 475; Indiana, 449; North Dakota, 162; Montana, 440; Colorado, 324; Oregon, 328; New Jersey, 301 and New York, 169. Many more States are expected to follow.
A petition is not searchable at WhiteHouse.gov until 150 signatures have been obtained. It is the originator's responsibility to obtain these signatures.

The first petition came in from Louisiana the day after Obama's re-election, and since then a chorus of others have issued their grievances.Now, under White House rules stated in its "We the People" program, if 25,000 people sign on by December 7th, a response must be issued. Just days after his re-election to the White House, Barack Obama has imposed new sanctions against Tehran. This comes as the Pentagon has revealed that Iranian warplanes tried to shoot down a US drone flying near Iran's border last week.
Reza Marashi, Research Director at the National Iranian American Council, says the US has so far failed to use the bargaining opportunity the sanctions potentially have.

Williams concludes that “the official recovery simply is a statistical illusion created by the government’s use of understated inflation in deflating the GDP.” In other words, the reported gains in GDP are accounted for by price increases, not increases in real output.
On September 13, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben “Helicopter” Bernanke announced Quantitative Easing 3. Bernanke said that the recovery is weak and needs more Fed stimulus. He said the Fed will purchase $40 billion of mortgage bonds per month in order to drive interest rates further below the rate of inflation and help to sell more houses.
But how do you sell houses to households who are getting by with 1967-68 levels of real income and who have absolutely no job security? Their company can be taken over and offshored tomorrow or they can be replaced by foreign workers on H-1B visas. Housing prices have dropped, but not to 1967-68 levels.
Sooner or later the dollar will collapse from Washington’s abuse of the dollar’s role as reserve currency, and the dollar will lose its “safe haven” status. US inflation will rise, and US political stability, along with America’s hegemonic power, will wane.
The rest of the world will sigh with relief. And China will have defeated the superpower without an arms race or firing a shot.

Crowded Prisons, Unions, and CA Three Strikes: Why We Can't Just Build More Cages
"Where other states are investing resources in, 'How do we help these people not come back into the prison system?,' California is not," says Adrian Moore, Vice President of Research at Reason Foundation.
The United States locks up more prisoners than any other country. And in the country holding the most prisoners in the world, California is the state that incarcerates more people than any other. California's prisons are so overcrowded that the Supreme Court ruled them in violation of the Eighth Amendment's "cruel and unusual punishment" clause.
Moore and others lay much of the blame at the feet of California's powerful prison guard union, the California Correction Peace Officer's Association (CCPOA), which is unrelenting in its advocacy for tough-on-crime laws, including California Three Strikes, under which any third-time felon can receive a 25-year to life sentence, even if the crime is not a violent, "serious felony (PDF)."
California voters have a chance to reform Three Strikes this year by voting for Prop 36, which would allow Third Strikers convicted of non-serious, nonviolent crimes to appeal for a sentence reduction. More than 3,500 Third Strikers were sentenced for a non-violent, non-serious crime, and of these, more than 1,300 were sentenced for drug-related offenses (PDF). CCPOA, which has donated money to stopping similar reforms in the past, has stayed relatively silent this time around, but another lobbying group, the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC) has stepped up with a $100,000 donation to an anti-Prop 36 campaign.
"We do lobby for stronger laws on the book that we can use to put people away, because these are people that are preying on the citizens of California," says Ron Cottingham, president of PORAC.
But with prisons overcrowding, recidivism high, and local jails facing troubles of their own, some sort of reform will need to happen, says Moore, though he doesn't expect a viable solution to be offered by the unions any time soon.
"[The unions] are following their own self-interest," says Moore, "which is to have the prison system in California continue to be large and to grow over time, and they have been very successful at that."

The most contentious civil forfeiture fight in the nation will be the subject of a week-long trial starting Monday, November 5, 2012, in Boston. Throughout the week, the Institute for Justice, which represents the property owners in the case, will expose the ugly practice of civil forfeiture—where law enforcement agencies can pad their budgets by taking property from innocent owners who have never been convicted or even charged with a crime.
The trial will start at 10 a.m. at the John Joseph Moakley U.S. Courthouse, 1 Courthouse Way in Boston. The case of Tewksbury, Mass., motel owner Russ Caswell and his wife will be presided over by Magistrate Judge Judith G. Dein in Courtroom 15. At the heart of the trial will be the protections afforded innocent owners, like the Caswells, when faced with the loss of their property.
All Russ and his wife want is to peacefully operate their motel. But because their property was worth one million dollars and carried no mortgage, and because a handful of drug crimes had taken place on the property over 20 years (which represent less than .05 percent of the 125,000 rooms the Caswells rented over that period of time), the federal government is trying to take the Caswell's property through civil forfeiture, sell the land and keep the money. Under a process known as "equitable sharing," the federal government would keep 20 percent of what they net and the local police department would pocket 80 percent. Russ and his wife stand to lose everything they worked their lives to build.
"The Caswell case epitomizes everything that is wrong with our nation's civil forfeiture laws," said Scott Bullock, senior attorney at the Institute for Justice.
"People who are never even charged let alone convicted of criminal wrongdoing can face the loss of their homes, cars, cash, or, like with the Caswells, their entire business and livelihood."
"This outrageous forfeiture action should never have been filed in the first place," said Larry Salzman, an IJ attorney. "What the government is doing amounts to little more than a grab for what they saw as quick cash under the guise of civil forfeiture. Our goal in this case is to not only spotlight the inevitable abuse that transpires when law enforcement agencies are allowed to use civil forfeiture, but to set a precedent that will end this nightmare for the Caswells and stop an abuse of power that has ruined the lives of too many innocent Americans."
Russ said, "I think it is quite obvious why the federal government has come after us and not other businesses. We own a million-dollar property with no mortgage, so anything they get here, they get to keep for themselves. This case took a huge financial toll on our family before the Institute for Justice stepped up to defend us. And it continues to put a huge personal strain on both me and my wife. At this point in our lives, we should be thinking about our retirement. Instead, we have to take on this fight to save our business and make sure that it won't happen again to the next generation that comes along."

POLICING FOR PROFIT: Feds try to take innocent elderly couple's Mom-and-Pop motel Obama Justice Department Set to Overrule any State that Legalizes Marijuana
Depending on the outcome of initiatives in three states, a confrontation awaits between the U.S. Department of Justice and advocates for legalizing marijuana.
On November 6, voters in Colorado, Washington and Oregon will decide whether to legalize and tax marijuana sales. If one or more of the measures passes, and President Barack Obama is reelected, expect the Justice Department to take action to stop any state from decriminalizing the popular herb.
In an outtake in a recent interview with “60 Minutes,” Deputy Attorney General James Cole proclaimed that the federal government is prepared to stop any “dangers” associated with state-sanctioned recreational pot.
“We’re going to take a look at whether or not there are dangers to the community from the sale of marijuana and we’re going to go after those dangers,” Cole told the television news magazine.
A crackdown on drug legalization would follow other efforts by the Obama administration to shutdown medical marijuana dispensaries operating within state law in California and elsewhere.

Republicans and Democrats are a Sham
Partisan politics are deluded, at best. If you consider yourself a Republican or Democrat, can you really point to every stance that your party endorses and say that you agree 100%? We’ve got a lot of young people these days doing cartwheels for President Obama, but do they really agree with him extending the Patriot Act? Do they support the NDAA? Are they right there with him on his aggressive stance against legalizing marijuana and snuffing out file sharing on the internet?
It is very sad that, in this country, we are forced to choose between the lesser of two evils because our democracy is not set up to enable representation of the minority, never allowing it to gain traction. I have the luxury of living in a state that is already firmly decided on what candidate it will give its electoral votes to, so I will be casting my vote for a third party that better fits my political views. Amnesty International reports the Syrian Government is to blame for the vast majority of violations being committed in the war torn country
Syrian Government to blame - Amnesty International reports Bahraini protesters march for downfall of regime
People have taken to the streets in Bahrain to call for the downfall of the ruling Al Khalifa regime in the Persian Gulf country.
Protesters marched in Manama and several other towns near the capital on Monday.
They also expressed solidarity with imprisoned medics who announced earlier that they had begun a hunger strike.

As Glenn Greenwald of the UK's Guardian writes in his blockbuster article from today:
"In the segment, Lyon interviewed activists as they explicitly described their torture at the hands of government forces, while family members recounted their relatives' abrupt disappearances. She spoke with government officials justifying the imprisonment of activists. And the segment featured harrowing video footage of regime forces shooting unarmed demonstrators, along with the mass arrests of peaceful protesters. In sum, the early 2011 CNN segment on Bahrain presented one of the starkest reports to date of the brutal repression embraced by the US-backed regime.
Despite these accolades, and despite the dangers their own journalists and their sources endured to produce it, CNN International (CNNi) never broadcast the documentary. Even in the face of numerous inquiries and complaints from their own employees inside CNN, it continued to refuse to broadcast the program or even provide any explanation for the decision. To date, this documentary has never aired on CNNi.
Having just returned from Bahrain, Lyon says she "saw first-hand that these regime claims were lies, and I couldn't believe CNN was making me put what I knew to be government lies into my reporting."

Moscow has denied claims concerning its “guidance” in downing a Turkish jet in Syria and “eliminating" two pilots after the crash this July. The assertion of Russian involvement was made on an Al Arabiya program based on “highly-classified docs.”
Russia’s Foreign Ministry said the information presented by the Saudi-owned news channel on Saturday is “utter nonsense.”
“It is ridiculous even to comment on this nonsense, but, unfortunately, we have to,” reads the Monday statement. “These far-from-harmless fantasies are based on 'intelligence databases,' obtained by Al Arabiya from open sources, including the official website of the RIA Novosti news agency." It continued, “The authors of this forgery did not even bother to remove the respective logo from the allegedly ‘secret document.’”
Syria’s anti-aircraft artillery shot down a Turkish fighter jet on July 22 because, according to a Syrian military spokesperson at the time, it violated Syria’s airspace. The incident deepened the crisis between the neighboring former allies. Following the incident, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his government now regarded Syria as a “clear and imminent threat.”

The Russian leader did not hesitate to name who is responsible for sowing the seeds of disorder that is gripping many parts of the world, including in Syria.
"Our partners just can't stop,” Putin said at a meeting with representatives of one of Russia's regions. “They have already created chaos in many territories, and now they are continuing the same policy in other countries, including Syria."

Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa says police forces and other sectors prepared a coup attempt. He was hospitalized because of injuries sustained during an attack by police with tear gas. Eva Golinger says the coup is in fact currently taking place and the attempt was a success. Police and military forces are not letting members of President Correa's government into a military hospital that he was brought to. The police are protesting a law that would take away their benefits.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has postponed a scheduled visit to Turkey amid Moscow's anger at Ankara over the forced landing of a Syria-bound plane carrying Russian nationals.
According to media reports, Putin was scheduled to visit Turkey on October 15.
The news came only one day after Turkey's F-16 jets intercepted the Syrian Airbus A320 late Wednesday and escorted it to Ankara's Esenboga Airport.
Moscow asked Ankara for clarification over the forced landing of the Syrian plane, which was carrying 17 Russian nationals including children.

Russia Will Not Renew Arms Deal With US
Russia says it will not renew a two-decade-old agreement with the United States aimed at securing nuclear and chemical weapons in the former Soviet Union.
Russia's Foreign Ministry said it will not accept a U.S. proposal to extend the deal without a major overhaul.
A ministry statement said U.S. officials know their proposal does not meet Russia's ideas of further cooperation on the program. It said Russia needs a different and more modern legal framework.
Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, U.S. Senators Sam Nunn and Richard Lugar sponsored the legislation that launched the program.
A White House spokesman, Josh Earnest, said President Barack Obama believes the program is still valuable and beneficial to U.S. national security program. The spokesman said the United States is willing to work with the Russians to update the program.
The U.S.-financed program is set to expire next year. It is credited with eliminating stockpiles of nuclear missiles and chemical weapons, ensuring the shipment of nuclear weapons out of the former Soviet republics of Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus, and preventing such weapons from falling into the wrong hands.
The program also led to the dismantling of more than 7,600 nuclear warheads.
Russia's top military officials have long complained the program gives the U.S. too much information about the nation's military technologies and weapons sites.
The move comes a few weeks after Russia announced it is expelling the U.S. Agency for International Development, the American foreign aid program.
Russia accused USAID of trying to "influence political processes through the distribution of grants."

There is a frightening new trend in the medical community: prescribing psychoactive stimulant medication to children from low-income families to boost their academic performance. To be more clear, doctors are actually prescribing ADHD drugs to students who are academically struggling. Here’s the kicker: the kids don’t have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
ADHD Drugs and Dangerous Side Effects
Despite a growing body of knowledge that the drugs in question—like Adderall and Risperdal—cause devastating side effects, prescriptions are on the rise. In 2010 alone, doctors drew up 18 million prescriptions of Adderall. Companies have even been struggling to produce enough ADHD drugs due to the massive increase in prescriptions.
Some of the side effects of ADHD drugs include:
Growth suppression
Raised blood pressure
Seeing people and hearing voices that aren’t there
Psychotic episodes
Suicidal thoughts
More shameful than the cavalier attitude with which prescriptions are doled out and accepted is that Big Pharma values dollar signs more than the lives of children. Though schools are not blameless, they may be inadequately funded and short-staffed, poorly equipped to deal with societal disadvantages of many of their pupils, or may simply be poorly run.

Ignorance, terror, and fear abound in the Public Fool System...
We see kids' lunches called non-nutritious and replaced with pink-slime nuggets or a child arrested for a plastic knife. Something similar happened this week in Newport, California when the lunch brigade noticed a boy's glass bottle (safely inside a foam sleeve) and confiscated his healthy Kombucha beverage which is comparable to apple cider.
The next day he was required to visit the Vice Principal's office where a uniformed cop was waiting there to give him the third degree. The administration claimed the drink violated the no-drugs-and-alcohol policy. The officer wrongly told the child that Kombucha was illegal and dangerous to mix with medicines or antibiotics - then asked him if and what medications he was taking.
He was interrogated and detained in the office the entire day - all the while without parental notification or representation. It gets worse . . . .

That's why actress and activist Daryl Hannah has joined forces with East Texas ranch owner Eleanor Fairchild, 78, to stage a protest against Keystone XL construction on Mrs. Fairchild's farm. The actress is intent on defending Mrs.
Fairchild's home and business, Fairchild Farms, a portion of which has been expropriated by TransCanada, for its toxic tar sands pipeline. The duo claim their action is inspired by our ongoing tree blockade happening on a neighboring property.
On Thursday afternoon, Hannah marched across Fairchild Farms with the ranch owner to block bulldozers from continuing to clear large swaths of Mrs. Fairchild's land along the toxic tar sands pipeline's route. Keystone XL will permanently bisect Mrs. Fairchild's 300 acre ranch, which includes undeveloped wetland areas and natural springs producing over 400 gallons of fresh water per minute from her property. Hannah, whose outspoken anti-Tar Sands position dates back many years, expressed pride to be able to stand with Mrs. Fairchild who is watching her home and its delicate ecosystems be destroyed in front of her eyes.

Americans May Be Getting Poorer, But At Least We Are Getting Fatter And Sicker
But it isn't just the Baby Boomers that are obese. Sadly, obesity has become a raging epidemic in America and all of the numbers show this.
For example, a study by the RAND corporation discovered that the percentage of Americans that are severely obese rose from 3.9 percent in the year 2000 to 6.6 percent in 2010.
That is a huge increase in just a decade.
And the numbers are even more sobering when you look at the percentage of Americans that are just obese (rather than being severely obese).
As I wrote about the other day, 36 percent of all Americans are considered to be obese, and it is being projected that by 2030 that number will rise to 42 percent.
To put that in perspective, it is important to note that only 13 percent of all Americans were obese back in 1962.
Sadly, not only are we getting fatter, many of us are also living shorter lives.

Neither candidate for President has any intention of changing the course of the U.S. Titanic. Our rendezvous with destiny has been charted, and there aren’t nearly enough lifeboats. Those who built the ship and recklessly navigated it into a sea of icebergs will be the 1st into the few lifeboats. The leaders we’ve chosen, the choices we’ve made, and our unwillingness to deal with facts and reality have set in motion a disaster that cannot be averted. It’s a shame the majority of Americans have the math aptitude of a 6th grader, because the unsustainability of our empire can be calculated quite easily. Math is hard for Americans, but denial and delusion are easy.

I've been pondering this topic for weeks, trying to find the words to communicate the full impact of this realization to which we are all increasingly awakening. Everything is rigged... the stock market, the news, the food, your taxes, public schools, the health care system, and on and on.
How do you beat a rigged system? Don't play!
With all these systems rigged against you, how do you stand a chance of getting ahead? As every Vegas gambler knows deep down, the only way to beat the house is to not play against the house. Don't play their game, in other words.
Instead of voting for the next presidential puppet, simply don't vote for any president! The mere act of voting for a presidential candidate legitimizes the corrupt system. (Yes, it's definitely important to vote for local candidates and ballot measures like Proposition 37 in California.)
The point of all this is that you can't beat a rigged system. That's why it's rigged, of course: to make sure you never come out on top. So stop playing in the rigged system! The house always wins, didn't you know? That's how casinos make money, and it's how nearly everything else works, too.

Since these two guys are actors, can't they get better actors to debate? Since these two guys are gangsters, can't they get Tony Soprano to square off against Sonny Corleone? That would give us some fabulous TV viewing.
Here are a couple of the incisive after-debate poll questions from CBS and CNN: how do you feel now about (candidate) caring about your needs and problems; did (candidate) perform better than you expected.
Caring about my needs and problems? What the hell does the president have to do with my needs and problems? I need the dissolution of the two American political parties. My problem is they're actually one party with two heads.
Perform better than I expected? I expected both of them would be mind-numbing, and they exceeded even Dr. Phil.
Democrat-Republican politics in America is a walking dead man. We who know this are trending, as they say. We need to expand our ranks. Two pernicious book-end gargoyles aren't going to save the day.

Don’t Vote For Evil
Back during the George W. Bush neocon regime, President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela in his UN speech summed up George W. Bush for the world. I am quoting Chavez from memory, not verbatim. “Yesterday standing at this same podium was Satan himself, speaking as if he owned the world. You can still smell the sulfur.”
Chavez is one of the American right-wing’s favorite bogyman, because Chavez helps the people instead of bleeding them for the rich, which is Washington’s way. While Washington has driven all but the one percent into the ground, Chavez cut poverty in half, doubled university enrollment, and provided health care and old age pensions to millions of Venezuelans for the first time.
Unfortunately, the Democrats, if a lesser evil, are still an evil. There is no reason to vote for the reelection of a president who codified into law the Bush regime’s destruction of the US Constitution, who went one step further and asserted the power to murder US citizens without due process of law, and who has done nothing to stop the exploitation of the American people by the one percent.
As Gerald Celente says in the Autumn Issue of the Trends Journal, when confronted with the choice between two evils, you don’t vote for the lesser evil.
You boycott the election and do not vote. “Lesser or greater, evil is evil.”
If Americans had any sense, no one would vote in the November election. Whoever wins the November election, it will be a defeat for the American people.

Whatever Happened to that Iranian Bomb Plot Case?
You’ve probably forgotten the plot: Mansour Arbabsiar, an Iranian-American used car salesman living in Texas, is arrested and charged with acting on behalf of high ranking officials in Iran’s government to conspire with a Mexican drug cartel to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the U.S.
This case begins dramatically, with Attorney General Holder announcing the arrest, stating that the plot was“directed and approved by elements of the Iranian government and, specifically, senior members of the Quds Force.” This is followed by President Obama asserting that “we know that he had direct links, was paid by, and directed by individuals in the Iranian government.” Thus, the utmost importance is conferred upon the arrest of Arbabsiar.

Iran Navy commander: 75 million Iranians ready for defense
The Iranian Navy says in case of any offensive against the Islamic Republic, the country’s entire millions-strong population is prepared to defend it against the aggressors.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran possesses complete preparedness and stability and this readiness exists in [the areas of] naval, ground, and air [defense],” said Iran’s Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, ISNA reported on Wednesday.
“And if we are faced with an [instance of military] threat or intrusion, 75 million Iranians are prepared for defense,” he added.

State TV Says Turkey Forces Syrian Plane to Land in Ankara
Turkish state-run television says Turkey has forced a Syrian passenger plane to land in Ankara on suspicion that it was carrying weapons to Syria.
The station reported Wednesday that Turkish military jets intercepted the plane and that authorities are now inspecting its cargo in the capital.
The Syrian government has not commented on the report. The announcement comes after the head of Turkey’s armed forces said the military will respond with greater force if shelling from Syria continues to spill across the border.

Passengers onboard the plane intercepted by Turkish jets said that security forces were making the crew and passengers sign fraudulent papers suggesting that the plane made an emergency landing and no Turkish military were involved in the incident.
Hours after Turkish authorities announced that the Syrian Airlines passenger plane intercepted by its F-16s was granted a departure clearance, the aircraft remained on the tarmac in darkness.
"Four people onboard have been beaten up, two crew and two passengers, as they tried to force them to sign documents," Sherin Azis, a hostess on the plane, told RT by phone. "We don't know what these papers are about. We are scared for the fate of the captain. He was taken away and threatened with arrest if he does not sign an emergency landing paper."
Fatima al-Saman, a passenger and a mother of three, also told RT that the captain was being forced to sign a release stating that military planes were not involved and the plane just made an emergency landing.
"If we do not agree to these terms, they will take the captain kind of hostage," al-Saman said. "They are threatening us. The captain has now returned and said that 'either I sign the document that I made an emergency landing or they are taking me hostage.'"
The plane has been surrounded by people in masks who have detained all the cargo and were looking through what looked like boxes with documents, passengers said. The Turkish authorities were interested in some spare parts, which a businessman bought in Russia and was transporting to Syria, al-Saman said. She said that as far as she could tell, they were clearly not weapons.
"They started unloading some packages. They opened them, took pictures. There were many people. We all saw what was in there. There were no weapons. You could see it with an untrained eye!" she said. "They just had some spare parts and papers -- objects, but there were no rockets. It is all a lie."
The captain himself did not even know why the plane was ordered down, al-Saman said. She added that the search involved only luggage, and the passengers were mainly ignored.
"Everyone is ignoring us, making it seem like we do not exist," she said. "The Russian Consulate did not get back to us. A lady has called one of the passengers and told her that the [embassy staff] are not being allowed to enter the airport territory. They have led us out of the plane where we kept asking for help, but everyone seems to ignore us."
'Close to disaster'
Following the incident Syrian Airlines accused the Turkish authorities of assaulting the airplane staff.
"The crew was subjected to aggressive behavior on the part of the Turkish authorities," said airline director Ghaida Abd Al-Latif. She said that the Turkish began to get aggressive when the crew refused to sign the papers stating that the plane made an emergency landing.
Al-Latif said that the Turkish jets intercepted the passenger plane in the air without any prior warning and flew so close by that a real "disaster could have happened."

Ankara endangered Russians by diverting a flight from Moscow to Damascus, Russia's Foreign Ministry said. Moscow expressed anger at not being informed that Russians were involved in the incident, and that their diplomats were denied access to them.
"We are troubled that the lives of the passengers aboard the plane, including 17 Russian citizens were put at risk by this inappropriate act. Turkey did not inform Russia that Russian citizens were among those detained on the plane. We found this out through the press," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aleksandr Lukashevich said.
The Russian embassy in Turkey demanded access to the Russian citizens and dispatched consular officers and doctors to the Ankara airport. Turkish authorities, however, denied the Russian diplomats access to the passengers, in violation of the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. The Russian nationals were detained in the airport for eight hours.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has demanded an explanation from Turkish authorities, and that Ankara take steps to prevent future such incidents.
Turkey defended the move by claiming that the plane could have carried "non-civilian cargo."
"There were no arms and military equipment aboard the civilian aircraft -- and could not be," a source in Russia's military industry told Interfax news agency.
Russia has maintained its military-technical cooperation with Syria, and that any arms or military equipment sales to Damascus are conducted according to established practice. The current law expressly forbids arms sales facilitated by civilian aircraft.
'Air piracy'
Syrian transport minister Mahoumd Said said that Turkey's detention of the passenger aircraft is tantamount to "air piracy," and violates civil aviation treaties, Lebanon's al-Manar TV channel reported.
Tensions between Turkey and Syria rose after a Syrian shell killed five civilians in the border town of Akcakale last week. Turkey returned fire and said it would retaliate against any future provocation originating in Syria. NATO supported
Turkey's move and pledged to defend the country should the Syrian conflict spill across the border.

Headlines: Another Phony Employment Report
Today’s employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows 114,000 new jobs in September and a drop in the rate of unemployment from 8.1% to 7.8%. As 114,000 new jobs are not sufficient to stay even with population growth, the drop in the unemployment rate is the result of not counting discouraged workers who are defined away as “not in the labor force.”
According to the BLS, “In September, 2.5 million persons were marginally attached to the labor force.” These individuals “wanted and were available for work,” but “they were not counted as unemployed because they had not searched for work in the 4 weeks preceding the survey.”
In other words, 2.5 million unemployed Americans were not counted as unemployed.

Time to name all the dead in Afghanistan: how many civilians have been killed?
David Cameron has never mentioned the name of a single Afghan killed, the majority of whom have been ordinary civilians caught in the middle of the West's war on one of the world's poorest countries.
European Phoenix -- The BBC and other media publish accurate statistics, updated immediately, for every British soldier killed in Afghanistan, usually with a potted biography giving details of age, home town, marital status, number of children and so on.
Neither has Barack Obama -- not even one of the 16 civilians killed on 11 March 2012 -- nine of them children -- who were slaughtered by an American soldier, who then burnt their bodies. We soon learned the name of US Staff Sgt Robert Bales -- who did the killing -- as the media was full of every conceivable detail about the man and his life. But not even the names of those he killed, were thought newsworthy -- which is why Stop the War published them a week after the massacre.
Nor did Obama have anything to tell us about the eight women and girls killed by a US airstrike on 15 September 2012 while they were collecting firewood.

I remember cuing up a US Predator strike before deciding the computer screen wasn't depicting a Taliban insurgent burying an improvised explosive device in the road; rather, a child playing in the dirt.
The Pentagon operates about 7,000 drones and asked Congress for nearly $5bn for drones in the 2012 budget. Before retiring as air force chief of staff, General Norton Schwartz was reported as saying it "was 'conceivable' drone pilots in the air force would outnumber those in cockpits in the foreseeable future". That's not a brave new world, far from it.
The encroachment of drones into the civilian realm is also gaining momentum. President Obama signed a federal law on 14 February 2012, allowing drones for a variety of commercial uses and for police law enforcement. The skies above may never be the same. As with most of America's darker elements, such as its gun culture, there's profit to be made – the market for drones is already valued at $5.9bn and is expected to double in 10 years.
